Where will Cam Newton play in 2020?

Cam Newton will soon be out of Carolina. We take a look at what teams have the best chance to sign him in 2020.

The Carolina Panthers have added multiple quarterbacks to their roster ahead of the 2020 season. Teddy Bridgewater signed a three-year, $63 million contract and appears poised to become a starter for the next few seasons, and XFL star P.J. Walker is also joining the team. This means Cam Newton is likely headed out the door, and he’ll be one of the most sought after targets for teams looking to make upgrades this offseason.

The odds took a turn on Monday following Washington’s decision to trade for Kyle Allen, one of the Panthers backup quarterbacks. Washington had been the favorites at DraftKings Sportsbook to land Newton at -110 thank or Ron Rivera’s history with the 2015 MVP. Washington has dropped to fourth in the odds following the Allen trade.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (+250) are slim favorites ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers (+300) and New England Patriots (+300). The Jaguars have Gardner Minshew under center and finished dead last in the AFC South in 2019. Jacksonville is at a clear disadvantage. The Chargers struck out on Tom Brady but are expected to get a quarterback with the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to challenge Tyrod Taylor. The Patriots have already lost Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Bill Belichick has raved about Newton’s abilities. New England has made a name for itself by capitalizing on released players hoping to play for a contender, and adding a healthy Newton gives them an edge to come out on top of the AFC East once again.

The Patriots have elite coaching and defense, Washington has a familiar coach and division, and the Chargers have top-notch talent all over on offense. It’s unlikely Newton would choose the Jaguars over other teams with much more to offer. If Newton has a choice between joining the Patriots or the teams looking to claw a path into the playoff picture, there’s a good chance he’ll be headed to Foxboro.

Below are the the odds for the rest of the teams that could sign Newton in 2020.
