English Premier League sees June 1 re-start as potential best-case scenario

The English Premier League has suspended the 2019-2020 season until at least April 30th due to the coronavirus outbreak, and the organization is discussing a variety of potential re-start dates, according to Sky Sports News.

The list of dates includes June 1st, although The Telegraph is reporting that is “a target rather than anything approaching a certainty.” The Telegraph described the 1st as one of the best-case scenarios following UEFA’s postponement of the European Championships. If that worked, it could result in the season finishing in enough time to start the new season on August 8th.

The clubs have their next scheduled meeting on April 3rd, and they will need to have more details ready to push forward. Any games played in the near future would be held without fans, and according to The Telegraph would need sanctioning from the government because of the need for emergency crews at the games. Given the medical issues surrounding the outbreak, that could prove to be what keeps the games from taking place sooner than later. Any decision will require further information from the government as to when the outbreak will peak in the United Kingdom.
