The 2020 PGA Tour season has been underway for some time now, but this week brings the first major tournament of the year. It’s not a capital M major, but THE PLAYERS Championship is regularly referred to as the fifth major. It was bumped up ahead of the Masters and gives us a chance for some highly anticipated golf.

The tournament gets going at 7:40 a.m. ET on Thursday at TPC Sawgrass, and all eyes will be on Rory McIlroy. Tiger Woods is sidelined with back issues and that leaves McIlroy in the spotlight as he looks to become the seventh player to win this tournament multiple times, and the first to win it in back-to-back years. A year ago, he won the tournament by one stroke over Jim Furyk.

McIlroy opens his defense at the No. 1 tee at 1:51 p.m. ET with Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka. The trio will tee off on Friday at 8:46 a.m. ET. The tourney opens at 7:40 a.m. with Brian Harman, Rory Sabbatini, and Sepp Straka teeing off at No. 1 and Russell Henley, J.J. Spaun, and Denny McCarthy teeing off at No. 10.

Golf Channel will be broadcasting the tournament from 1-7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, while NBC will broadcast the tournament from 2-7 p.m. on Saturday and 1-6 p.m. on Sunday. You can stream the tournament at PGATour.com/live, but the PGA is offering a more all-encompassing subscription option. They are offering a stream of every shot live for $9.99/month or $64.99/month. If you’re truly a golf junkie, that would seem to be an option for you.

Rory McIlroy heads into this at +750, making him a fairly sizable favorite. Jon Rahm is behind him at +1200, followed by Justin Thomas at +1500, and then Bryson Dechambeau at +2200.
