Dallas Renegades quarterback Landry Jones completed 25 passes for 205 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions against the Roughnecks before being forced from the game in the fourth quarter with an MCL injury. He was replaced by Philip Nelson, who started Week 1 when Jones was out due to a similar injury he suffered in training camp. Nelson only attempted three passes, completing one for 11 yards. The Renegades went on to lose 27-20 to Houston.
Jones tells XFL reporter Art Garcia that he will likely miss 4-6 weeks and hopes he can get back before the season ends, as there are six weeks left. That should put Nelson into the spotlight for the remainder of the season. Jones hadn’t been efficient, as he’s thrown seven interceptions in three games, but he had helped the team to two wins and had looked better than Nelson.
Nelson dinked and dunked his way to a Week 1 loss against St. Louis, completing 33 passes for 218 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. His presence will likely hurt stud tight end Donald Parham, but should keep running backs Cameron Artis-Payne and Lance Dunbar flush with targets moving forward.
