The Morning Line March 1: Michigan vs. Ohio State, Xavier vs. Georgetown, & more

This is March. The best month of the college basketball year begins today with some key Big Ten and Big East matchups

It’s here: the best month on the calendar. May the madness consume you for the next 31 days (and beyond because you don’t want to quit before the Final Four). Conference tournaments start in two days. It’s here.

Let’s get right to it.

No. 19 Michigan and No. 23 Ohio State renew their ancient rivalry for the whatever time. UM finally lost a game last time out against Wisconsin after a tremendous midseason turnaround. The loser of this game might drop out of the AP poll, but will still safely be in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes are catching 3.5 at home, and the status of Eli Brooks will be a factor.

Cincinnati needs to get off the bubble, and a win at Houston today would do just that. UC was cruising along before a bad home loss to Central Florida, and Jerry Palm has them as one of the first four out. They’re getting 6.5 from the bookmakers today, and a big game for Jarron Cumberland would help on the road against Quentin Grimes, who is a gametime decision.

Finally Louisville has lost three of their last five, but get the Hokies of Virginia Tech at home today. VPI head coach Mike Young has lost eight of his last nine in his first season in Blacksburg, but a few of the home games have been close. But they’ve been blasted on the road, including by 24 to Duke their last game on the road. The Cards are giving 11.5 points because of it.
