How to bet on the Oscars, and where you can bet on the Academy Awards

You can bet on the 2020 Oscars, but only if you’re in certain jurisdictions. We break down the details.

The Oscars aren’t just a glamorous show to celebrate the best in cinema from the previous year — they’re a night to put down a few bucks on your favorite films, actors, or just your hunches as to whom will be the winners on Hollywood’s biggest night.

Below we’ll take a look as to where and how you can bet on the Oscars in the US, which is legally allowed in several states

How and where to bet on the 92nd Academy Awards

You can bet on the Oscars on if you are in New Jersey or Indiana via DraftKings Sportsbook. Those are the only states that have legal Oscars betting due to laws in those jurisdictions. Nevada is now allowing betting on non-sporting events, but regulators have not yet approved wagering on the Oscars.

The Oscars are voted on my members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and their various unions, but those results are held under lock and key by a very limited number of representatives of PriceWaterhouse Coopers accounting firm. It’s an extremely secure process, so there are no leaks and you can feel good about nobody knowing the winner for sure until the envelope is opened on stage.

So who should I bet on?

We’ve hopefully made that easier! Here’s an Oscars pool guide based on the odds issued earlier this week, and we broke down some of the major categories here:

Best Picture

Best Actor

Best Actress

Best Director

You can also check out this guide as to which films have been won awards via the various guilds and other awards shows this season such as the Golden Globes and BAFTA’s.

The Oscars are this Sunday, February 9th, at 8 p.m., live from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. They’ll be broadcast in the United States on ABC.
