Update: It was reported overnight that the trade also includes the Oklahoma City Thunder and F Danilo Gallinari is expected to be dealt to the Heat as well. Miami intends to sign Gallo to an extension, similar to Andre Iguodala. As a result, this morning the Heat jumped up to +2000 to win a championship this season. The Heat were already one of the top teams in the East and added two proven veterans who have playoff experience. Miami is all-in and the East needs to be put on notice.
We have various reports indicating that the Miami Heat have landed Andre Iguodala in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. As the odds currently stand, Miami is +3000 to win the NBA Championship and +1000 to win the Eastern Conference at DK Sportsbook. The question becomes, how much has Iggy improved their chances to win a title? He’s been talked about a ton in the media lately and figuring out his landing spot has been a popular point of debate.
I think this is leading people to forget about what he brings to the table at this point in his career. Iggy is 36 and doesn’t provide much on offense at this point in his career. Last season, he averaged 5.7 points per game and only shot 33% from three. It is not as if he’s a great floor spacing weapon. What he does provide is solid defense and leadership. That could provide some value come the playoffs although I am not sure he is difference maker at this point in his career to the point that I expect the Heat to be able to beat teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers in a playoff series.
