USC has three players on the injury report leading into its game against Arizona on Thursday night including guards Jonah Mathews and Kyle Sturdivant and forward Nick Rakocevic.
The senior Mathews is listed as probable with an illness and will dress for the game. Head coach Andy Enfield said he is unsure whether Mathews will be able to take on his usual workload. He is the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 12.9 points per game with 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals.
Senior Rakocevic played just five minutes in USC’s road loss at Utah on Sunday as he battles a virus. Like Mathews, Enfield said he’s not sure how many minutes Rakocevic will see against Arizona. According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, Rakocevic recently lost 16 pounds in three days. Rakocevic is averaging 11 points and 8.5 rebounds this season.
Reserve freshman Sturdivant will likely sit out his fifth consecutive game for personal reasons as he mourns the death of his father. He is currently averaging two points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game and has not played since USC’s road loss to Arizona State on Feb. 6.
Lines have not been posted for the game at this point. Arizona is squarely in the NCAA Tournament, while USC is right on the bubble.
