Another week of the XFL is complete, and we saw a healthy mix of predictable and unpredictable results. Some teams performed as expected, some underachieved, and others exceeded expectations. Here’s how the teams stacked up against Week 3 odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Houston Roughnecks defeat Tampa Bay Vipers 34-27
The Roughnecks emerged from Week 3 as the XFL’s last undefeated team. They were 6.5-point favorites against the Vipers and covered the spread by a narrow margin. Tampa Bay was more competitive than expected, and the teams blew over the point total of 44.5. Houston signal caller P.J. Walker threw for a season high 306 yards and ran for a score in the contest. He also completed three touchdowns passes to Cam Phillips. These two have emerged as the league’s most dynamic duo.
Tampa Bay’s quarterback tandem of Taylor Cornelius and Quinton Flowers each ran for a score while working together to fill in for Aaron Murray. Cornelius also threw Dan Williams his first touchdown pass of the year. Williams leads all Tampa Bay wideouts with 180 receiving yards.
Dallas Renegades defeat Seattle Dragons 24-12
The Renegades won by 12 after entering Saturday’s matchup with the Dragons as four-point favorites. The matchup fell short on the total points over/under of 43.
Landry Jones built on his Week 2 performance going 30-of-41 for 274 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions in his second XFL start. Two of his touchdowns hurls were to Donald Parham, who caught five passes for 101 yards. Running back Cameron Artis-Payne had a strong showing for a second straight game and tallied 80 rushing yards on 13 carries. Austin Proehl stood out for Seattle. He notched six receptions for 81 yards and a score. Kenneth Farrow reached the end zone for the Dragons’ only other score of the game on a catch. He tallied 14 rushing yards and three receptions for 25 yards.
St. Louis BattleHawks defeat New York Guardians 29-9
The BattleHawks were heavily favored (-10) to dominate the Guardians Sunday and won by double that in a 20-point victory. This contest fell just short of the DraftKings Sportsbook projection for total points (40).
Running backs Matt Jones and Christine Michael led the way for St. Louis’ offense while Jordan Ta’amu was cold. Each member of the duo tallied a rushing score and they combined for 139 yards on 28 carries. Jones had a team-high 95 yards on the ground. New York’s offense was almost nonexistent for a second straight week, but Austin Duke lead all receivers with four receptions for 43 yards and a score. The Guardians were forced to use three different quarterbacks because of Matt McGloin’s continued struggles.
Los Angeles Wildcats defeat DC Defenders 39-9
Despite being favored by 8.5 points against the Wildcats, the Defenders were blown out by 30 points. The over/under for total points (44) hit but, but the distribution wasn’t anywhere near what most expected.
Josh Johnson obliterated DC by throwing for 278 yards and three scores. Tre McBride was the primary beneficiary of Johnson’s great night, as the wideout racked up 109 receiving yard on five receptions. Nick Brossette was a bright spot for DC on a dreary night and rushed for 75 yards and a score.
