Starting the second half of the season, Giannis Antetokounmpo is a heavy favorite to win MVP. He’s currently priced at -455 to win the award for the second consecutive season, but does anybody make for a good bet at longer odds?
Who is the best MVP bet?
We know that Giannis is the prohibitive favorite at this point of the season. Behind him, there are three players with a not impossible chance to win MVP. Luka Doncic is +800, LeBron James is +900 and James Harden is +1200. Still, it’s hard to make a serious case for anybody other than Antetokounmpo to win this award. He won it last year and has been even better this season. Giannis is averaging 30 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, both of which are career-best marks. He also could have better stats if not for his team constantly winning via blowouts. Antetokounmpo is only playing 30.9 minutes per game because of how often he wins one-sided games.
We also have to consider where the Milwaukee Bucks sit in the standings. They are first in the Eastern Conference by 6.5 games and have an outside chance for 70 wins. The Bucks are the current favorites to win the Championship, so this is the team generally perceived as the best in the league. At the moment, I can’t see a voter making a case for anybody to win the MVP outside of Giannis. Even at -455, I think he makes for a viable bet.
