Daytona 500 weekend is just about upon us, and the race order has been finalized. The Bluegreen Vacations Duel races determine the odd and even starting positions behind the front row. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and Alex Bowman have the front row spots thanks to their qualifying performances last Sunday.
Joey Logano claimed Duel 1 and the third position in Sunday’s race, and William Byron won Duel 2, leading three laps and just edging out Jimmie Johnson. Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick, and Cole Custer rounded out the top five spots in the race. Byron will line up in the fourth spot, Larson has the sixth spot, Harvick has the eight spot spot, and so on through the even-numbered starting positions in the Great American Race.
Byron was tied for fourth in odds to win the race and to finish third. However, Johnson and Larson had longer odds at seventh and tied for eight, respectively.
Now that the race order has been determined, we’ll see new Daytona 500 odds reflecting the changes. A higher start is welcome, but far from a determination of victory. Over the past five years, the race winner has started 10th, 14th, 8th, 11th, and 5th.
