Going into the XFL’s kickoff weekend, we had some idea of who was starting and what players and coaches have been good in the past. That method wasn’t going to be 100 percent effective of course, but for quarterbacks, it wasn’t a complete failure.
Here are your Top-5 daily fantasy quarterbacks for the opening weekend of the XFL at DraftKings.
- Phillip Walker, Houston Roughnecks — 32.48
- Charles Kanoff, LA Wildcats — 20.66
- Cardale Jones, DC Defenders — 20.2
- Jordan Ta’amu, St. Louis Battlehawks — 20.06
- Brandon Silvers. Seattle Dragons — 18.78
Walker was likely the highest rostered quarterback on DraftKings, as he was cheaper than his backup quarterback Connor Cook and his coach, June Jones, is a Run N’ Shoot guru. There was little doubt that Walker would have plenty of chances to put up fantasy points and that came to fruition when he completed 23-of-39 passes for 272 yards, four touchdowns and one interception while tacking on 26 yards rushing..
The rest of the Top-5 weren’t close to Walker’s huge game, but Cardale Jones was a player most believed would put up a good game, as he has a strong coach and team and plenty of ability. He ended up third in scoring by completing 16-of-26 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing nine times for 28 yards.
Charles Kanoff was likely on few if any rosters, as there were conflicting reports on who would start in place of injured Josh Johnson. Kanoff didn’t have a good game in a traditional sense, but he did for fantasy purposes, completing 21-of-40 passes for 214 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and boosting his fantasy stats by rushing for 21 yards and a touchdown.
Jordan Ta’amu had one of the better games of the weekend, as he completed 20-27 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown, and ran the ball nine times for 77 yards. Those rushing yards are a great sign for his fantasy value moving forward.
The biggest disappointment was probably Aaron Murray from the Vipers. Many expected Murray to get a bump from Marc Trestman’s pass first offense, but Tampa Bay ended up scoring a league low three points while Murray completed under 50 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions to no touchdowns.
