How and what to watch for Boston College vs. Virginia

Both of these teams have been looking very good in the last month of the season.

On Saturday afternoon the 6-4 Boston College Eagles finish off their conference slate when they take on the 4-4 Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville.

Over the last month, BC has only lost to the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation. Meanwhile UVA hasn’t lost since before Halloween, and even knocked off a top-15 team in the process.

Boston College’s wins have been much closer than the Cavs. UVA is pretty bad at stopping big passing plays, but they’re actually pretty good at stopping the run and pounding the rock on the ground. The ground game will be huge for Virginia in this one, as they rank 47th in rushing efficiency while the Eagles are ranked 108th in rushing success allowed. BC is even lower ranked in explosive passing plays allowed, but that shouldn’t factor in against a Cavalier unit that’s passing for just 256 yards per game.

Boston College’s offense is exceptionally average. No facet of the team is particularly amazing, but there’s also not an overly weak link on O either. They average 27 points per game, which they should hit against UVA who gives up 29 points per game. Still, they’re not going to be able to blow the ‘Hoos out and will probably struggle mightily on defense.

The Best Bet

Boston College’s defense is going to struggle against the UVA run game. The Eagles are going to get their points though, because Virginia isn’t going to turn into some crazy stout unit overnight. Both teams will surpass their season-average of points per game
