In the best game on the New Year’s Eve slate, the MAC champion, Ball State Cardinals will be taking on the No. 22-ranked and undefeated San Jose State Spartans in the Arizona Bowl at 2:00 p.m. ET.

The Cardinals (6-1) defeated the previously undefeated Buffalo Bulls in the MAC title game two weeks ago. With the victory, Ball State has now won six straight games. As for the Spartans (7-0), they were the underdogs in the Mountain West Conference title game, but took care of business against Boise State. This should be a high-scoring game between two quarterbacks in Drew Plitt and Nick Starkel, who can throw the football around the field.

So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Point Spread

San Jose State is favored by 9.5 points. They have received 58% of the bets and 71% of the handle.

Is the public right?

Yes, they are correct. This season the Spartans have a record of 6-0-1 against the spread and 2-0-1 when they are the favorite. In three games as a favorite, San Jose State won by an average of 15 points.

The point total for this Thursday matinee contest is set at 64. As of now, 68% of the bets and 50% of the handle are siding with the over.

Is the public right?

As previously mentioned, we are going to see two quarterbacks and offenses that can put up points and yards. Ball State is averaging 34.3 points, San Jose State scores 30.9 per game, and both offenses are averaging more than 400 total yards per game. We are going to see points galore in the desert on Thursday.

The Spartans have moneyline odds of -335, with the Cardinals’ odds coming in at +295. Of the moneyline bets placed for this game, San Jose State is seeing 71% of the bets and 74% of the handle.

Is the public right?

Both teams have been phenomenal straight up and on the moneyline this season. However, I like the Spartans to win this game because they are allowing 17.9 points per game this season on defense. And San Jose State has the better playmakers at the skill positions.
