Jimmy Garoppolo to sit out the 49ers Week 17 finale

The 49ers will sit their No. 1 QB in the final game of the 2020 regular season.

The San Francisco 49ers will close out a disappointing 2020 season without their No. 1 quarterback. Jimmy Garoppolo has been practicing since the team opened his practice window, but he will not come off IR. He’s been sidelined since aggravating an ankle injury in Week 8.

This means C.J. Beathard will get one more start to close out the season. Nick Mullens had replaced the injured Garoppolo, but he injured a ligament in his throwing elbow and is done for the year. The 49ers signed Josh Rosen off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad to serve as Beathard’s backup to close out the season.
