Who will miss the 2021 Peach Bowl due to injury and Covid-19/NFL Draft opt-outs

Opting out of college football bowl games has become a trend over the last few years and when you combine that with a pandemic, you’ll see it more than ever. We scoured the internet to find the latest information on which players have opted out of their bowl game for whatever reason as well as injury updates on players who are banged up and might be unable to go.

The Cincinnati Bearcats will get a chance to prove themselves against some pretty good competition when they play the Georgia Bulldogs in the Peach Bowl to kick off the college football action on New Year’s Day. This game is much more important for Cincinnati than it is for Georgia, and that is reflected by the players deciding to opt out of the bowl game.

UPDATE 12:08 p.m.: Richard LeCounte is IN for UGA today.

UPDATE 11:35 a.m.: Gerrid Doaks has been declared OUT for Cincinnati today, as well as safety James Wiggins. These are big losses for the Bearcats.

UPDATE 10:40 a.m.: Some updates to the players available for today’s game. Gerrid Doaks would be a huge loss for Cincinnati.

Georgia roster update

Injury

In addition to opt outs, Georgia has a number of situations where we’re not quite sure yet whether they will see the field on Jan. 1. After injuring a shoulder in a motorcycle accident following this season’s win over Kentucky, star safety Richard LeCounte returned to the practice field and could suit up for this game.

Among those listed as questionable include defensive lineman Julian Rochester, wide receiver Justin Robinson and running back Kendall Milton.

Opt-out

Georgia has a number of players opting out of this game including guard Ben Cleveland, tight end Tre McKitty, center Trey Hill, cornerbacks Eric Stokes and DJ Daniel, and linebacker Monty Rice.

Cincinnati roster update

Injury

Cincinnati’s leading rusher Gerrid Doaks left the AAC Championship with a leg injury against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and is listed as questionable. Safety James Wiggins is questionable for the game with a leg injury after leaving the conference title game with a leg injury as well.
