The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to host a first round matchup in the 2021 NFL Playoffs, and they are looking to go into the game well-rested. Head coach Mike Tomlin announced on Tuesday that Mason Rudolph will start at quarterback when Pittsburgh travels to face the Cleveland Browns in Week 17.
With Ben Roethlisberger getting Week 17 off, we can probably expect other starters to get rest as well. Mike Tomlin said it would be “maybe another player or two,” per Brooke Pryor, but I don’t think anybody would be surprised if it was more than that.
Pittsburgh is currently the No. 3 seed in the AFC. They could move into the No. 2 seed with a win and a Buffalo Bills loss, but they cannot drop lower than their current position. The Bills are hosting the Miami Dolphins in a game Miami likely needs to win.
The Browns are in a similar situation where they most likely need a win to secure a playoff berth. Lookahead lines a week ago had the Browns as four-point favorites, but the line at DraftKings Sportsbook climbed to 7.5 this morning and is up to 9.5 as of this article publishing.
