The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that Mike Glennon will get the start in Week 16 when they host the Chicago Bears. Head coach Doug Marrone would not announce a starter throughout the week, instead waiting to see what practice showed. Glennon gets the nod over Gardner Minshew.
The quarterbacks are effectively competing to be a 2021 backup or maybe a short term bridge quarterback. The Jaguars have moved to the top of the draft order thanks to the New York Jets loss in Week 15, and Trevor Lawrence is the top prize in the draft. Whether or not Lawrence starts from day one, any other quarterback on the depth chart is just playing for scraps.
The Bears rank 11th in fantasy points allowed, and there’s no reason to start Glennon this week. The bigger question is what it means for D.J. Chark, Keelan Cole, James Robinson, and the rest of the skill position players. Minshew had more upside for total volume, but neither quarterback has been particularly consistent. Chark is in flex territory at best as the season closes out.
