What to do with Mike Gesicki in Week 16 of the fantasy football playoffs

Will Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki continue his hot streak after missing last week with a shoulder injury?

Game status: Mike Gesicki is ACTIVE for Week 16.

Though the Miami Dolphins haven’t delivered a string of stellar offensive performances during the final stretch of the regular season like some of their peers, they have seen improved play from one of their most promising young skill-position players, tight end Mike Gesicki. In part due to Gesicki’s strong three-week run, the Dolphins have managed to win enough games to take the inside track for the seventh and final seed in the AFC playoffs.

Now, with two games remaining and the Baltimore Ravens breathing down their necks, the Dolphins hope for another big game from their third-year tight end.

Fantasy Football analysis: Dolphins TE Player

Gesicki has reached the end zone in each of his last three games, scoring twice during a 33-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Those touchdowns don’t seem totally random either, with Gesicki seeing a meaningful uptick in targets (7.3 average) during that stretch. That play has not only positioned the young pass catcher as a key for a Dolphins team that might not have Devante Parker or Jakeem Grant in tow this weekend, but it has also made Gesicki a potential game changer in the fantasy playoffs.

Even so, Gesicki missed last week’s game with a shoulder injury and remains on the injury report this week. He has practiced in a limited capacity since Tuesday, giving the Dolphins and fantasy managers hope for a return to action on Saturday.

If he does, Gesicki will find a Raiders defense that has performed reasonably well against tight ends. While the unit has given up a weekly average of approximately 63 yards to the position group, it has only allowed five touchdowns to tight ends all year.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

If he plays, start Gesicki only as an emergency TE1.
