Game day update: Christian McCaffrey is looking very unlikely to play, making Mike Davis a volume-based, floor play in Week 16. He’s not likely to win you a championship, but if James Robinson carried you there, you could do much worse for an emergency fill-in. ESPN projects Davis at 12.6 fantasy points for the day.

After starting the year strong, Mike Davis has been subpar for the most part since Week 6. This week’s matchup against the Washington Football Team doesn’t make starting him a reliable choice.

Fantasy Football analysis: Panthers RB Mike Davis

Davis’ hot streak in the beginning of the season when he first replaced an injured Christian McCaffrey came to a close in Week 6, and though he did put up 26.30 points in Week 14, Davis was brought back to Earth last week for a modest 8.10-point performance. His workload on the ground has been consistent, but he’s averaged just four targets per-game in the last four games compared to his 8.25 targets per-game from Weeks 2-5.

In the seven games that he hasn’t scored a touchdown, Davis has failed to score double-digit fantasy points in six of them. Now, he faces a Washington Football Team that has held opposing starting running backs to under 10 fantasy points in each of the last five weeks, and had Carlos Hyde score just 12.30 last week.
