Public betting splits and line movement for Cure Bowl: Liberty vs. Coastal Carolina

We break down the public betting splits and how the lines have moved for the Liberty Flames and Coastal Carolina Chanticleers facing off in the Cure Bowl.

One of the best games of the year in college football was denied when the Liberty Flames and Coastal Carolina Chanticleers couldn’t get together because of Covid-19 earlier this season. That changes today as the Cure Bowl brings together two of the best stories of the 2020 college football season.

So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Point Spread

Right now Coastal Carolina is a 7-point favorite, but with just 27% of the cash and 39% of the handle on the Chants.

Is the public right?

The bettors love Liberty with the touchdown, and that’s not a bad wager. The Flames eviscerated their very easy schedule, with wins over two ACC teams in Syracuse and Virginia Tech. Their only loss was by a single point on the road to North Carolina State, and they scored 30+ points on eight of nine FBS opponents.

But the Chants have been the darlings of college football this season. With an 11-0 record and a Sun Belt championship, their win over BYU might have been the game of the year. But CCU tends to play games a bit closer, so we’ll take the Flames with the points, especially if it gets to 7.5.

Over/Under

The total is 60, with 85% of the cash and 81% of the tickets on over.

Is the public right?

Let us know if you find a trick play in the book that doesn’t get used today. Both these teams have dynamic quarterbacks, with Liberty’s Malik Willis being one of the best players you might not know about in America. Coastal’s Grayson McCall uses the run game to set up his throws, which has ended up in 23 touchdowns and just two interceptions this season.

They scoring should come in bunches today. Over!

Moneyline

Coastal Carolina is -295, with 84% of the cash and 77% of the bets on the Chants. That makes Liberty a +200 underdog.

Is the public right?

Nope! Liberty can straight up win this game, especially on a beautiful day in Orlando against a team that might be disappointed they’re playing on Boxing Day instead of New Year’s Day. We like the Flames with the price here, and Hugh Freeze should let it rip today.

Cure Bowl: Liberty vs. Coastal Carolina

Opening line: Coastal Carolina -6.5
Current line: Coastal Carolina -7

We’ll take the Flames today, and if injuries aren’t an issue, we’ll hope we can get the hook at +7.5 as well.
