Gardner Minshew, Mike Glennon to split first-team reps heading into Week 16 against Bears

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said on Wednesday that quarterbacks Gardner Minshew II and Mike Glennon will split first-team reps this week at practice to see who will be named the starter against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, per John Reid of the Florida Times Union.

Minshew was back under center for the second-straight game last week against the Baltimore Ravens. The second-year quarterback played solid, but was sacked five times in the team’s humiliating 40-14 loss. Minshew was 22-of-29 for 226 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. ‘

In the previous week’s game against the Tennessee Titans, where he replaced Glennon, Minshew completed 18-of-31 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown.

While the starts for Minshew do not look bad, the offense hasn't had the same consistency that they did when Glennon or rookie Jake Luton was under center. In his first two starts in Week 12 and Week 13, Glennon completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 515 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.

In both of those games against the Cleveland Browns and the Minnesota Vikings, the Jaguars only lost by a combined five points. That being said, it should be interesting to see who wins the quarterback competition because they may have an inside track to winning a roster spot for next season.
