It’s hard to know what to make of the Mississippi State Bulldogs season in the first year under head coach Mike Leach, but it will come to an end in the first game on New Year’s Eve against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the Armed Forces Bowl. The game will kick off at noon ET in Fort Worth, Texas and can be seen on ESPN and the WatchESPN app.

How they got here
Year 1 under Leach had plenty of ups and downs throughout the season. It started with a record-breaking offensive performance in a win over what we thought was a good LSU Tigers team, but the Mississippi State offense went silent after that, losing four in a row before playing much better toward the end of the season for a 3-7 record.
As for Tulsa, it was definitely a successful year with a 6-2 overall record and qualified for the AAC title game where the Golden Hurricane lost 27-24 to Cincinnati. Tulsa’s only loss during the regular season came against Oklahoma State in the season opener, and the Golden Hurricane had a lead in the third quarter of that game.
