How they got here

FAU has gotten a lot less national buzz now that Lane Kiffin is no longer roaming the sideline, but the Owls had a decent season in Year 1 without him. The boys from Boca Raton finished 5-3, including 4-2 in Conference USA play for second place in the East division behind Marshall. FAU lost each of its last two games heading into this one. As for Memphis, it also finished its first regular season without last season’s head coach in Mike Norvell. The Tigers finished 7-3 overall including 5-3 in the AAC for a tie for third place in the conference. After getting blown out against Cincinnati, Memphis won four of its last five games to close the season.
