The No. 23-ranked Liberty Flames (9-1) ended their season on Nov. 27 with an impressive 45-0 shutout victory over the UMass Minutemen. In that contest Flames quarterback Malik Willis had 286 total yards and four total touchdowns. In 2020 Willis completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,040 yards, 20 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 807 yards on the ground and 10 touchdowns. The 12th-ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (11-0) were the Cinderella story of the 2020 college football season. The Chants were supposed to played Louisiana in the Sun Belt Championship game on Saturday, but the game was canceled because of COVID-19. CCU is fundamentally sound on both sides of the ball, and has one of the best and most innovative offenses in all of college football. Quarterback Grayson McCall has 2,170 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and two interceptions. Running back C.J. Marable produced 844 yards and 12 touchdowns, meanwhile, wide receiver Jaivon Heiligh accumulated 52 receptions for 820 yards and 10 touchdowns.
This is a battle with two of the best teams outside the Power Five conferences in all of college football, and should be a beauty for fans of the game.
