After signing a blockbuster deal in free agency this past offseason, tight end Austin Hooper has not lived up to expectations. Now he’s listed as questionable for Sunday night’s game against the New York Giants. Therefore, it might be time for David Njoku to shine, but can you trust him in fantasy football at this point? Let’s answer that question below.
Fantasy Football analysis: Browns TEs Austin Hooper, David Njoku
Austin Hooper missed last week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with a neck injury and could be in jeopardy to miss his second-straight game. Without Hooper in the lineup, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield fed the ball to both rookie tight end Harrison Bryant and veteran David Njoku.
Between the two, Njoku played the best with three receptions (four targets) for 45 yards. He also played a season-high 61 percent of offensive snaps. It was the first time since Week 1 that the 24-year-old tight end had at least three receptions. This week, he’ll try to build off of his Week 14 performance against an improving New York Giants’ defense.
Through 14 weeks, the Giants’ defense has only allowed three touchdowns and 6.5 fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends. They gave up a touchdown last week to Cardinals tight end Dan Arnold, which was the first one since Week 8.
