With the Detroit Lions quarterback situation in flux right now thanks to Matthew Stafford’s injury, the wide receiver picture there is especially difficult to sort out for fantasy football purposes this week. Nevertheless, we did our best.
Fantasy Football analysis: Lions WRs Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola, Mohamed Sanu, Quintez Cephus
The first thing to note is that Kenny Golladay, their true No. 1 wideout, is not playing again this week. His absence has mostly benefitted Marvin Jones. He has 32 targets over the last three games. However, he’s only topped 50 yards in one of those outings—a Week 13 game against the Bears with 116 yards and a touchdown. He’ll have some appeal as a WR3 this week with Stafford under center.
(Note, there’s reason to think that Stafford will be able to play. He’s traveling with the team and was reportedly feeling better after some doubts earlier in the week.)
Sanu has been more productive lately, but he’s capped off at fewer than 40 yards per game. Amendola caught six passes on seven targets last week, but had just 66 yards to show for it. That was his best game since Week 9. Two weeks ago, Cephus had 63 yards and a touchdown against the Bears, but he didn’t crack 20 yards last week.
If the Lions have to go with Chase Daniels as their quarterback, Jones’ fantasy value drops to a very borderline WR4.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Marvin Jones as a WR3 or WR4. Sit the rest.
