Thursday update: Tagovailoa was limited in practice on Wednesday, but is able to get work in with his injured thumb. Head coach Brian Flores said the team will see how the week progresses and will make the QB decision on Sunday, per Adam Beasley.
Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is practicing on Wednesday, despite wearing black tape around his left wrist and thumb because of a thumb injury, per Josh Tolentino of The Athletic.
Tagovailoa initially suffered the injury in practice last week, which led to the Dolphins starting veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick back under center in Week 12. Against the Jets, Fitzpatrick completed 24-of-39 passes for 257 yards, and two touchdowns. Miami is hoping that Tagovailoa gets medically cleared this week as they prepare to play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
This season, Tagovailoa is completing 61.9 percent of his passes for 602 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions. The Dolphins are 7-4 and sitting a game back of the Bills in the AFC East. Tagovailoa was benched in Week 11 but the plan is to return him to the starting lineup once he’s healthy. The Dolphins won in his first three starts but he and the team struggled in Week 11.
