Game day update: The Falcons ground game has falteed much of this season and we’ve seen Todd Gurley start to lose reps to Ito Smith. Smith led the team in touches last week and while ESPN projects Gurley with more fantasy points (9.3) in PPR leagues, Smith is right behind him with a 7.3 projection.
If you’re pinning your fantasy hopes on Atlanta Falcons running back Todd Gurley this week, we might kindly suggest you make an immediate adjustment to your lineup. Gurley had just six carries for 19 yards last week against the Chargers, adding 12 more yards on two catches. He should not be in your lineup for this week’s game against the Buccaneers.
Fantasy Football analysis: Falcons RB Todd Gurley
Gurley hasn’t had more than 10 carries since Week 9, including a missed game in Week 12 because of a knee injury he still doesn’t seem to be completely recovered from. He didn’t see much action in the second half of last week’s game either with the Falcons intent on throwing the ball.
Ito Smith has taken on an increased role in the backfield, and he’s out-touched Gurley in each of the last three weeks. But don’t let that fool you; Smith’s team-leading 11 carries translated to just 42 yards last week. His fantasy relevance isn’t much more than Gurley’s.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Sit Todd Gurley.
