GGG vs Szeremeta results: Gennadiy Golovkin beats Kamil Szeremeta via seventh round TKO

Middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin won decisively over Kamil Szeremeta. We break down how it went down what might be next.

Friday night’s middleweight bout between Gennadiy Golovkin and Kamil Szeremeta brought no surprises. GGG dominated the fight and ended it following the seventh round. Szeremeta made it through the seventh round, but the ref finally ended the fight in between rounds.

Golovkin put Szeremeta on the mat four times over the course fight. He got knockdowns in the first, second, fourth, and seventh rounds. Our friends at Bad Left Hook were hoping he would work harder to finish the fight, but as Golovkin gets older, the knockout shot is not quite the same. He still has power, and put it on display Friday night, but he’s not what he was in his prime. He’s still a great fighter, but not the same.

The next fight many would want is a third fight between GGG and Canelo Alvarez that could theoretically close out the trilogy. It’s certainly the biggest money option out there for Golovkin. The two fought to a draw in their first fight and then Alvarez won a majority decision a year later. Alvarez fights Callum Smith at super middleweight on Saturday evening. Golovkin could fight Alvarez regardless of the outcome, but Alvarez bringing some winning momentum into a third fight would seem to bring some extra oomph.
