Mike Gesicki won’t play vs. Patriots for Week 15

The Dolphins will be without their starting tight end back when they face the Patriots this week.

Sunday update: Gesicki won’t play this week against the Patriots, per Ian Rapoport.

Friday AM update: Gesicki got in another practice on Friday, which bodes well for Sunday, per Josh Tolentino. We await word on his status.

Thursday update: Gesicki was able to practice in a limited fashion on Thursday, per Joe Schad. This is a surprising turn of events after it appeared he would be out this week. He still could be out, but it looks like they are going to test the waters.

Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki wasn’t at practice on Wednesday, per ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe. Gesicki was forced from their Week 14 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs with an apparent shoulder injury after landing on his neck/head after a catch.

Gesicki’s injury appeared significant as the trainer held his arm while walking to the locker room. Then, after the game, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sounded resigned to a bad injury for his tight end, saying, “I had the opportunity to go in after the game and see Mike and talk to him. And he’s really hurting, but I just told him my thoughts and prayers are with him, that the rest of the team is praying for him.”

Gesicki had caught two touchdowns before his injury and on the season he has 44 receptions for 602 yards and six touchdowns. If he can’t go this week against the Patriots, Adam Shaheen will likely take the lead at tight end.
