Who has beaten or drawn Canelo Alvarez in his 56 professional fights

Canelo Alvarez looks to take down undefeated Callum Smith on Saturday. We look at who took Alvarez’s zero

Floyd Mayweather Jr. v Canelo Alvarez

This weekend brings a huge super middleweight bout as super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez takes on fellow champion Callum Smith in a bout with three different versions of the super middleweight title on the line. The main card gets going on Saturday at 8 p.m. and we can expect Alvarez and Smith to make their ring walks in the 11 p.m. ET hour.

Alvarez enters the fight with a 53-1-2 record. The multi-weight class champion suffered his only defeat in a majority decision loss to Floyd Mayweather. Two judges in that fight in Mayweather’s favor (116-112 and 117-111) and one judge scored it a 114-114 draw. Alvarez entered the fight 42-0-1 before losing his zero.

The two draws on Alvarez’s record come at decidedly different times in his career. In his fifth career fight, he finished in a draw with Jorge Juarez. His second draw came in his 52nd career fight. It was his first fight against Gennadiy Golovkin, and he won a majority decision over GGG one year later to claim the vacant The Ring middleweight title. A trilogy ending fight with GGG is still a possibility in 2021.

Smith enters the fight with a 27-0 record and coming off a unanimous decision over John Ryder to defend his super world super middleweight title. Smith is recognized by The Ring magazine as the top of the super middleweight division, but this is a decided step up in competition with Alvarez moving into the division.
