The 2020-2021 bowl season gets underway later this weekend, and we are starting to get confirmation on participants. All games are subject to change due to Covid-19, but for now, these matchups have been confirmed either by the schools themselves or media reports:
Myrtle Beach Bowl: Appalachian State Mountaineers vs. North Texas Mean Green
It’s been reported in enough places that this looks like it’s going to happen. The Mountaineers finished 6-2 in the Sun Belt, with their only losses to Coastal Carolina and Louisiana, who are playing for the league title. North Texas was 4-5, 3-4 in C-USA, and are here because apparently no one else wanted to go to Conway, South Carolina in December?
Boca Raton Bowl: BYU Cougars vs. Central Florida Knights
This should be a good one! An underrated bowl game in terms of player experience, one that comes with valet parking, features two of the better non-Power Five teams available. BYU came up a yard short against Coastal Carolina from an undefeated season, and the Knights might have lost a legendary quarterback, but can still score in bunches with Dillon Gabriel and their breakneck pace.
New Orleans Bowl: Georgia Southern Eagles vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

G.A.T.A will be aiming for Skip Holtz in this one. La Tech finished 4-2 in C-USA, 5-4 overall this season. Georgia Southern was just 4-4 in the league, but two of those losses were by one score or less to No. 19 Louisiana and rival App State, plus a two-TD shortcoming against No. 13 Coastal Carolina.
Montgomery Bowl: Memphis Tigers vs. Florida Atlantic Owls
Two teams that came up a bit short in 2020 when facing their presumptive league champions. Memphis was 5-3 in the American Conference, but lost to Cincinnati 49-10. FAU was 4-2 in C-USA, but fell 20-9 to Marshall in a game that wasn’t that close. Brady White vs. the FAU defense should make for good football.
New Mexico Bowl: Houston Cougars vs. Hawai’i Warriors
We truly believe the team that goes by “UH” will win this one. The Coogs were just 3-4, but seem to have found their future quarterback in Clayton Tune. Hawai’i is a new look team under Tood Graham, and bring Chevan Cordeiro and a 4-4 record to the Yellowhammer State on Festivus. The Airing of Grievances begins at 7:00 p.m. from the Cramton Bowl.
