Game day update: Washington’s aggressive defense kept the Steelers passing game in check last week, except for Diontae Johnson. They should have more room to work this week against the Bills. ESPN is projecting 15.9 points for Johnson, 14.7 for Smith-Schuster, and 12.8 for Claypool.
Every week, we have to sort out the wide receiver picture with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Of the three players listed here, all have a slightly different role to play in that offense, and that means all three have a different fantasy outlook. So let’s parse the trio for Week 14.
Fantasy Football analysis: Steelers WRs Diontae Johnson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool
Starting at the top, Diontae Johnson is clearly the favorite option for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Last week, Johnson caught eight passes on 12 targets for 71 yards and a touchdown. He’s consistently seeing double digit targets every week. The Bills have been friendly to No. 1 receivers too, allowing three of them to top 90 yards in Buffalo’s last four games. Johnson is a solid WR1 play this week.
Smith-Schuster sees a decent volume of targets in this offense. He caught seven passes on 10 looks last week, but he was only able to turn that into 28 yards. The problem is that he’s getting the dump offs and short throws in an offense that rarely tosses the deep ball anymore. He’s fine as a WR3 or a Flex player. The same goes for Claypool, albeit a little more volatile in terms of scoring potential. Sometimes he can ball out, but sometimes he’s just another short yardage receiver.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Diontae Johnson as a WR1. Start JuJu Smith-Schuster and Chase Claypool at WR3/Flex.
