Game day update: When you have three good wide receivers like the Dallas Cowboys have it is a good problem. However, it is also a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses and fantasy football managers because you are not sure who will get a consistent amount of targets in said game.
This week, the Cowboys’ WR trio of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb will face a Bengals’ defense that has not allowed a wide receiver touchdown in two consecutive games. ESPN projects Cooper to score 8.0 fantasy points, while Gallup and Lamb to score 7.0 and 7.1 points.
The Cowboys have had a tough time getting their offense back on track since losing Dak Prescott all the way back in Week 5. They have shown glimmers of hope here and there but have failed to put together any consistently good play. The talent in the Dallas wide receiver corps is abundant and begging to be used. Can a Week 14 matchup with the Bengals being out some of the fireworks we saw from these receivers earlier in the season? We break down the fantasy analysis below.
Fantasy Football analysis: Cowboys WRs Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb
Amari Cooper’s value took a hit with the loss of Dak Prescott, but it was not as significant as most fantasy owners feared. Since Week 6, Cooper has averaged 14.8 points and 7.4 targets per game and has scored three touchdowns. He remains an integral part of this offense on a weekly basis, which makes him a weekly fantasy starter. The Bengals defense has allowed the 15th most points to opposing fantasy wideouts so far this season, making them neither a matchup to target or a matchup to avoid. Start Cooper as a low end WR2 given these circumstances this weekend.
CeeDee Lamb has seen a consistent target share, but has failed to make a big splash recently. His big play ability makes it difficult to resist starting him every week, but he has too much competition for targets to be a reliable weekly starter in fantasy leagues. Even so, there is still the possibility for him to score a touchdown and provide decent fantasy numbers in any given week. He is worth considering as a starter but is nothing more than a low end WR3/flex in a crowded offense.
Michael Gallup has been hit or miss this season, but was most recently a hit in Week 13, when he brought in seven of 11 targets for 76 yards and a touchdown to lead the Cowboys receivers. Andy Dalton seems comfortable looking Gallup’s way and he has done so often enough to afford Gallup some fantasy value. Unforunately, he has lots of competition for targets in this offense, limiting his upside, and leading to his aforementioned hit or miss tendencies. For this reason, Gallup provides too much risk to confidently recommend as a starter for your lineup. He is a touchdown dependent flier, but nothing more.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Amari Cooper as a WR2
Start CeeDee Lamb as a low end WR3/flex
Sit Michael Gallup
