Game day update: Cardinals starting running back Kenyan Drake is listed as questionable with a hip issue for Sunday’s game against the Giants, but he is expected to play. With that in mind, it should be interesting to see how many carries he gets and the workload that Chase Edmonds will receive.

This season, New York’s defense is only giving up 96.7 rushing yards per good, which is fourth best in the NFL. But they are also allowing 18.6 fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. ESPN projects Drake, Edmonds to score 12.8 and 7.2 fantasy points, respectively.

The Cardinals backfield had a tough matchup against the Rams in Week 13 and will look forward to a friendlier opponent in Week 14. The New York Giants have allowed the 7th most fantasy points to opposing running backs so far this season, which bodes well for Drake and Edmonds to have decent outings. Do both of these backs deserve a spot in starting lineups this week? We break down the fantasy analysis below.

Fantasy Football analysis: Cardinals RBs Kenyan Drake, Chase Edmonds

Kenyan Drake made the most of limited opportunity in Week 13, when he rushed 10 times for 49 yards and a touchdown, while adding two receptions for nine yards. His workload was only half of his Week 12 workload of 22 carries, demonstrating the variability in Drake’s opportunity from week to week. Despite the volatility, he remains the 15th ranked running back for the season and has a plus match-up against the Giants defense this week. Chase Edmonds figures to cut into his workload as always, limiting his upside, but he still remains an RB2 this week.

Chase Edmonds remains involved in the passing game barely enough to salvage his fantasy value in the setting of a very small share of the team’s carries. He averages 3.5 receptions per game which provides him with a somewhat decent floor in PPR formats, but he is too touchdown dependent to be a viable fantasy starter at this point in the season. To be safe, Edmonds is best kept on the bench in Week 14.
