Evander Holyfield calls out Mike Tyson for a third fight

We might get a third fight between the legendary heavyweights.

Mike Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr. this past week to a draw that most thought Tyson won. The legends squared off in an exhibition fight at STAPLES Center, on a seven-fight card that drew plenty of eyeballs over the weekend.

Now, another legend wants a piece of Tyson. There’s long been talk of an exhibition rematch between Tyson and former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield and on Tuesday, Holyfield made his challenge official. His team released a press release suggesting the world wants a Tyson-Holyfield fight a whole lot more than they wanted a Tyson-Jones fight.

Holyfield has not fought since 2011, but he might be facing former cruiserweight champion Glenn McCrory next spring. McCrory released a fight poster, but it is not believed to have been made official.

Holyfield suggested Tyson needed a tune-up fight before facing Holyfield, thus the Jones fight. It is possible Holyfield will be looking for a tune-up of his own before the two former heavyweight champions meet later next year. Tyson said his team reached out to Holyfield previously but nothing got done. I suspect if both sides want to make a deal, it will happen.
