What to do with Cam Newton in Week 9 fantasy football

We go over Cam Newton’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Patriots Week 9 matchup against the Jets on Monday Night Football.

The reality has definitely not lived up to the hype around Cam Newton joining the New England Patriots this season. And while the team has a smattering of problems up and down the roster, Newton’s play at quarterback hasn’t helped. For fantasy football, he can be a decent option in some weeks, depending on the matchup.

Fantasy Football analysis: Patriots QB Cam Newton

Newton hasn’t had more than 200 passing yards in a game season except for one game in Week 2. Last week against the Bills he completed 15 of 25 passes for 174 yards, but he managed not to throw an interception for the first time in four games played. He had three picks the week before against the 49ers. What salvaged his day from a fantasy perspective was a rushing touchdown and 54 yards on the ground. But it still wasn’t much.

This week, Newton’s a decent streaming option thanks to his opponent, the New York Jets. The NFL’s last winless team is giving up big points to opposing quarterbacks. Newton isn’t going to throw five touchdowns like Patrick Mahomes did last week, but his role leading the Patriots’ running game sets up what should be a decent day.
