What to do with Robby Anderson, DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel in Week 9 fantasy football

We go over Robby Anderson, DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Panthers Week 9 matchup against the Chiefs.

Game day update: The Panthers’ top receivers are healthy but Samuel could see a drop in production with the return of McCaffrey is back from the IR. It’s unlikely that Samuel will get his usual small share of carries with two viable running backs available. Anderson and Moore shouldn’t be affected as much as the WR3.

Teddy Bridgewater only attempted 23 passes in Week 8’s Thursday night matchup between the Panthers and the Falcons. It was a wet and windy night, leading to unexciting performances for the Carolina wide receivers. Luckily for Curtis Samuel, he was part of the game plan on the ground in Christian McCaffery’s absence, as he managed two scores. One score was on a flea flicker play, while the other was on a rushing attempt, and Samuel finished the game with 21.4 PPR points. Who will reign victorious in the fantasy world from this group in Week 9 against the Chiefs? We break down the fantasy analysis below.

Fantasy Football analysis: Panthers WRs Robby Anderson, DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel

Robby Anderson has been Teddy Bridgewater’s go to guy all season, and that did not change in Week 8 as he received eight targets to account for 13 of the team’s passing attempts. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, Anderson only brought in five of those targets for 48 yards to finish the game with 9.8 PPR points. It was Anderson’s lowest total of the season, and was due in most part to game flow. Things should start looking up for Anderson in Week 9 as the Panthers try to keep up with the high-powered Chief’s offense. The weather will be better and Bridgewater will need to throw early and often to put enough points on the board. He will be looking for his favorite guy when he does so, and Anderson can therefore be started as a WR2.

D.J. Moore had a rough week against the Falcons for many of the same reasons that Robby Anderson did. With so few targets to go around, Moore only had the ball thrown his way six times, and only managed to make two catches for 55 yards. Prior to Week 8, Moore had three solid performances and he will look to get back on track in Week 9. Increased opportunity should be available and Moore’s big play ability gives him added upside. He too can be started as a WR2 in Week 9 as the Panthers try to keep pace with Kansas City.

Curtis Samuel may have been the only receiver to benefit from the inclement weather in Week 8 as he got involved in the rushing game. He also added four receptions for 31 yards as the Panthers moved towards shorter and safer passes. Unfortunately for Samuel, the forecast is great for this Sunday, the Panthers will likely need to put up lots of points, and Christian McCaffrey will be returning from injury, eliminating the need for Samuel in the rushing attack. For all of these reasons, Samuel can be expected to return to more of his early season role, which places him more in low end flex territory.
