What to do with Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup in Week 9 fantasy football

We go over Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Cowboys Week 9 matchup against the Steelers.

Game day update: Cooper, Gallup, and Lamb are heathy but it’s hard to gauge what their ceilings are with Garrett Gilbert starting under center over Cooper Rush and DiNucci. Gilbert gas two career completions so the chances of him leading a dynamic passing attack are slim. All three wideouts seem like risky plays.

Things did not go well for the Dallas wide receiver corps as they took on the Eagles in Philadelphia in Week 8. Ben DiNucci had a night he’d probably like to forget in his first NFL start, completing only 21 of 40 passes for 180 yards, no touchdowns, and forfeiting two fumbles. Dallas will be without Andy Dalton once again this weekend, as he has landed on the COVID-19 list and Ben DiNucci will return to the bench. With the Cowboys starting quarterback still unknown at this time, can any of these wide receivers be trusted in your lineups? We break down the fantasy analysis below.

Fantasy Football analysis: Cowboys WRs Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup

Amari Cooper remains the 10th ranked fantasy wide receiver for the moment, but last week’s 1.5 point performance may be an indication of the trouble to come for fantasy owners who relied on Cooper earlier this season. The Cowboys passing attack is unbelievably bad at the moment, making it tough to even trust a receiver of Cooper’s caliber. The Steelers are allowing the 8th most points to opposing wide receivers, which works in Cooper’s favor, but there are far too many questions regarding who will be passing the ball to him come Sunday. Cooper can still be put in lineups, but as a WR3/flex with tempered expectations. His WR1 days will be put on hold for now.

CeeDee Lamb was finding his groove and emerging as a big talent in Dallas prior to Dak Prescott’s injury. He is currently the 21st ranked fantasy wide receiver, but his season has suffered a similar fate to that of Amari Cooper at the hands of poor quarterback play. Lamb was once WR2 material, but as the Cowboys struggle to find a capable passer, he is nothing more than a low end WR3/flex play.

Michael Gallup actually saw a season high 12 targets in Week 8 and was the most successful member of the Cowboys offense, finishing with seven receptions for 61 yards to total 13.1 fantasy points. This was Gallup’s second highest point total of the season, and though it may seem to show promise, it’s tough to extrapolate too much hope given the current situation in Dallas. Gallup can be utilized in deeper leagues or as a bye week fill in as nothing more than a WR4/flex this weekend.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Start Amari Cooper as a WR3/flex

Start CeeDee Lamb as a WR3/flex

Start Michael Gallup only as a WR4/deep flex
