San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed has been activated from injured reserve and will play against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Reed has been sidelined with a knee injury since October, but his activation comes at a time where the team severely needs pass-catchers.

The 49ers are without George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne and Deebo Samuel, which leaves them with Trent Taylor, possibly Richie James and Ross Dwelley as active roster pass-catchers. That should leave huge opportunity for Reed, as long as he can come back to a full set of snaps.
Reed’s great opportunity gives him a ton of upside, but his long layoff with a knee injury could also point to him not getting a full workload against the Packers. We need to weigh the risk of limited snaps while also allowing for big upside. When deciding to sit or start Reed, you’ll need to decide how much risk you’re willing to burden your fantasy team with.
