What to do with Nick Mullens in Week 9 fantasy football

We go over Nick Mullens’ fantasy football outlook ahead of the 49ers Week 9 matchup against the Packers on Thursday Night Football.

The 49ers can’t seem to escape the injury bug, as they once again lost Jimmy Garappolo to the same ankle injury that removed him from the starting lineup earlier in the season. Garropolo has been placed on IR and must miss at least three weeks, though there is speculation that he may be done for the season. Cue Nick Mullens to step into this decimated offense as they head into a Week 9 Thursday night match-up against Green Bay. Throughout the season Garoppolo was often times left on the fantasy bench in favor of a better option at the quarterback position, so would Mullens even be worth considering? We break down the fantasy analysis below.

Fantasy Football analysis: 49ers QB Nick Mullens

Nick Mullens didn’t look half bad in relief of Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 8 , as he came off the bench and completed 72 % of his passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns. The 49ers Week 8 opponents, the Seahawks, have a very QB-friendly defense, so this performance must be taken with a grain of salt. Mullens will face a more difficult opponent in Week 9, as the Packers have allowed the 10th fewest fantasy points to opposing QBs this season and have allowed only seven touchdowns through the air. Mullens will be without the top two receiving threats in the offense, as George Kittle is out indefinitely with a foot fracture and Deebo Samuel continues to recover from a hamstring injury. All in all, things aren’t looking good for Mullens and he should be left on the bench this Thursday night. The tough matchup and various missing offensive weapons make it nearly impossible to start this back-up QB in your lineup.
