Report: Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. out for the rest of the year with a leg injury

The Hoosiers hopes in the both the New Years Six bowls and the B1G title race take a massive hit.

The No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers were dealt a massive blow today, as starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will miss the rest of the 2020 season with a leg injury, according to reports.

Penix has been a star for the team that might be the best story in college football in 2020. The sophomore is 124/220 passing for 1645 with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions, and he’s added two touchdowns as a rusher as well.

The injury occurred in the Hoosiers 27-11 win over Maryland last Saturday. Jack Tuttle replaced Penix, and was 5-5 for 31 yards in mop-up duty. The redshirt sophomore from football factory Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, California will now be asked to lead the crimson past Wisconsin and rival Purdue during the last two games of 2020.

Indiana is also still in the race for the Big Ten East title. Though they trail Ohio State by a game thanks to their 42-35 loss in The Horseshe, if one more game is canceled by Ohio State they’ll be ineligible to play in the league’s championship game.
