The Miami Dolphins have used a host of running backs this season and they will be without their most dangerous option in the coming weeks. Myles Gaskin has sprained his MCL in Week 8 and is expected to miss three games, according to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson. His absence could open the door for Matt Breida. to be impact players against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9.

Fantasy football analysis: Dolphins RBs Matt Breida, Jordan Howard, DeAndre Washington

Gaskins has quickly become one of the more versatile backs in the NFL and has been used in quite a few ways this season. He’s emerged as the Dolphin’s top rushing threat and leads the team with 387 rushing yards on 100 carries. He also ranks sixth among all running backs in targets (35) and fourth in receptions (30). He’s amassed 585 yards from scrimmage and his production will likely have to be replaced by several other backs.

Jordan Howard has notched a couple healthy scratches and has essentially been phased out. Gaskins’ injury could give him a chance to be relevant again but he’ll likely take a backseat to Breida. Breida will likely get most of the work but he’s on the smaller side and could forfeit goal line work to Howard, who is more of a bruising runner.

The Dolphins made a power move on Tuesday by trading the Kansas City Chiefs draft capital for DeAndre Washington. The fifth-year back has escaped a loaded backfield starring Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Le’Veon Bell and will get a chance to contribute right away for Miami. He was a solid backup behind Josh Jacobs with the now-Las Vegas Raiders in 2019 and can chip on the ground and through the air. He totaled 679 yards from scrimmage last season and caught 36 passes.
