What to do with the Raheem Mostert, Jerick McKinnon in Week 12 fantasy football

We go over the fantasy football outlook of the 49ers RBs ahead of the 49ers Week 12 matchup against the Rams.

Game status: Raheem Mostert is ACTIVE for Week 12.

The San Francisco 49ers are back from their bye, and look like they will welcome back running back Raheem Mostert from injured reserve. The team activated him on Saturday, and while he is listed as questionable, their current depth chart suggests he will likely be active in Week 12 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Mostert joins Jerick McKinnon and Austin Walter in the backfield. Two weeks ago, Walter had a single three-yard carry against the Saints. Tevin Coleman remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Fantasy Football analysis: 49ers RBs Raheem Mostert, Jerick McKinnon

Mostert was on IR since injuring his ankle in Week 6. He missed two weeks earlier in the season with an MCL sprain, but when healthy he offered RB1/RB2 potential. He’s a breakaway threat when he gets his hands on the ball, and is a threat in the passing game — catching at least two passes in each of his four games this season.

McKinnon has gotten starting opportunities with injuries piling up in the backfield, and while he has not put up huge yardage totals, he’s been quite productive as a fantasy back. He’s scored a touchdown in five of the team’s ten games, and has been a regular receiving option more often than not. He’s finished with double digit fantasy points in six of his ten games, thanks primarily to touchdowns, but also providing PPR value.

The Rams have given up the fourth fewest fantasy points to running backs this season, so this is not an easy matchup for any of the 49ers running backs.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Mostert is an RB3/flex option in his first game back. If he is active, he’s got considerable upside, but downside given his layoff. McKinnon has some PPR flex value, but only in the deepest of leagues.
