What to do with Matt Ryan in Week 12 fantasy football

With Todd Gurley and perhaps other key weapons unavailable, can Matt Ryan take advantage of a bad Raiders defense?

A dismal Atlanta Falcons season continues its march of futility this week with a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Quarterback Matt Ryan has played reasonably well given the obstacles, but he will have to deal with even more issues around him on Sunday.

Fantasy Football analysis: Falcons QB Matt Ryan

While Ryan remains healthy, several key members of his supporting cast could miss the week with injuries. The Falcons have already ruled out running back Todd Gurley due to knee trouble, and wide receiver Julio Jones and tight end Hayden Hurst officially enter the weekend as questionable. Jones did not practice this week, though Hurst did manage to participate on a limited basis.

And whether because of a diminished supporting cast or his own issues, Ryan’s productivity has suffered. Over the past four weeks, the former MVP has thrown just four touchdowns and as many interceptions. The low point came a week ago with Ryan completing just over 50% of his passes for only 232 yards, no scores, and multiple picks.

But while that downturn suggests Ryan has outlived his utility from a fantasy perspective, Sunday’s matchup with the Raiders defense offers some upside. Las Vegas has allowed 16 passing touchdowns and just under 2,800 passing yards in 10 games this season, and half of the unit’s eight interceptions came against a bad Denver Broncos offense in Week 10. So while Ryan doesn’t offer a ton of upside, he also has a higher floor due to his opponent.
