The Louisville Cardinals appear to have small taken a step back in the 2020 season while the Boston College Eagles are headed in the right direction under their first-year head coach.
Louisville enters this one with a 3-6 overall record including 2-6 in ACC play. The Cardinals offense has improved throughout the season especially in the last four games, which showed the Cardinals average nearly 500 yards per game. Louisville ranks No. 25 in all of college football in terms of yards per play, benefitting from a struggling Syracuse team in last week’s 30-0 home win. They rank 65th in yards per play allowed this season after allowing the Syracuse “offense” to gain just 137 total yards.
Boston College is better than it was last season as it continues through Jeff Hafley’s first season with the Eagles. The statistics will not wow anybody, but Boston College plays hard which we may not have been seeing in previous seasons. The Eagles don’t move the ball down the field all that effectively, ranking 89th in terms of yards per play among the 127 college football programs in FBS this season. Defensively, Boston College ranks in the middle of the pack at No. 66 in that category.
Louisville won the last matchup between these two teams with a 41-39 home victory in 2019.

The Best Bet
Boston College appears to be a more steady team this season, whereas Louisville can be all over the map. The Cardinals had to readjust on the fly as they were scheduled to be playing Wake Forest this weekend but have less time to get ready for Boston College on the road. This game will be played in the Eagles’ style, and Phil Jurkovec is serviceable enough to give Boston College the cover in this one. Let’s go with Boston College.
Pick: Boston College -1.5
