Get weird, 2020. On Thursday afternoon, the Colorado Buffaloes’ scheduled road matchup with the USC Trojans was canceled due to coronavirus concerns for USC. Shortly after that announcement, Colorado had a contingency plan set up to play a home game with the San Diego State Aztecs, which is what will take place on Saturday.
Colorado is 2-0 this season with a pair of close victories over UCLA and Stanford before last week’s game against Arizona State was canceled. Considering the way things went down in the offseason for the Buffaloes, it’s impressive to see Colorado start off so well under first-year head coach Karl Dorrell. Defensively they haven’t looked all that impressive, but Colorado scored 48 and 35 points in their two wins.
San Diego State has a bit of a larger sample size in 2020 after five games at 3-2 in Mountain West play. The Aztecs were looking for a new opponent this weekend when their scheduled game with Fresno State was canceled. Just like it was last season, San Diego State’s defense is dominant so far this year. The Aztecs ranked eighth in opponent yards per play last season and after five games, they are No. 2 in the country behind only Cincinnati.
These two programs met each other just once previously, and Colorado won 34-14 at home back in 2002. Eighteen years later, San Diego State is looking for that sweet revenge.

The Best Bet
Guys, it’s San Diego State. Take the under. None of the Aztecs’ first five games have reached 52, and the defense continues to dominate according to the statistics. Colorado scored a ton in its first two games, but that was against UCLA and Stanford, both of which really struggled defensively in 2019. San Diego State’s defense is way too good for this game to go over this point total.
Pick: Under 52
