How and what to watch for LSU vs. No. 5 Texas A&M

Texas A&M finds itself at No. 5 in the CFP rankings, while LSU just hopes to finish its 2020 season strong.

The Texas A&M Aggies have a real shot at finding their way into the College Football Playoff and on the other side, it’s been a lost season for the LSU Tigers with not a whole lot going right.

Texas A&M enters with a 5-1 overall record and was slotted at No. 5 in the first College Football Playoff rankings reveal of the season earlier this week. The Aggies have not played since a 48-3 road win over South Carolina on Nov. 7 and had games against Tennessee and Ole Miss postponed. A&M are having a very good season on the offensive side of the ball, and they rank 15th in all of college football in yards per play with its strength being the running game.

LSU is 3-3 this season and returned to the field after a long break last weekend and beat Arkansas 27-24 on the road. The Tigers are No. 49 in yards per play but has not had any success in trying to run the football this season, checking in at No. 103 in rushing yards per attempt. A&M quarterback Kellen Mond should find success against this defense that ranks No. 125 in yards per pass attempt among 127 competing FBS teams in 2020.

Texas A&M snapped a seven-game losing streak to LSU with a seven-overtime win in 2018, but the Tigers won this meeting 50-7 on the road last season.

The Best Bet

I have found success in betting on teams that have taken multiple weeks off. They seem to be energized and ready to get back on the field, and I think that’s going to be the case in this game once again especially with this being a home game for Texas A&M. The Aggies won three games in a row by double digits against Mississippi State, Arkansas and South Carolina. That will continue on Saturday with Texas A&M having everything to play for as it looks to improve its resume for next week’s CFP rankings.

Pick: Texas A&M -14.5
