Game day update: When the Kansas City Chiefs signed Le’Veon Bell last month, there was a small concern that he might take carries away from rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire. However, since Bell’s arrival, CEH has received more carries than the veteran running back at 33--23. This week, the Chiefs RBs will be facing a Buccaneers’ defense that has only allowed a league-best 73 yards per game and 80 yards over the last three contests. ESPN projects Edwards-Helaire and Bell to score 9.7 and 4.4 fantasy points, respectively.
The Kansas City Chiefs leaned on their running backs to power the offense last week against the Raiders. Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Le’Veon Bell combined for three rushing touchdowns in the 35-31 win. The two running backs have a tougher matchup this week against the Buccaneers, but at least one of them is still a decent fantasy football option.
Fantasy Football analysis: Chiefs RBs Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Le’Veon Bell
Edwards-Helaire had 69 yards on 14 carries to pair with his two touchdowns last week. He out-carried Bell, who had just seven rushing attempts for 25 yards and a score. Both backs also had a single catch in that one.
While the Chiefs are committed to using Bell just a little bit, his production numbers are too inconsistent to merit fantasy consideration. Edwards-Helaire is still the better option here, a decent RB2 this week.
However, the Bucs present a more difficult challenge. Opposing backfields are averaging just 53 yards per game against Tampa Bay, and they’ve given up just seven rushing and three receiving touchdowns this season.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Clyde Edwards-Helaire at RB2. Sit Le’Veon Bell.
